October 13th is known as the National No Bra Day, and in order to promote breast cancer awareness, the scientists warned women about the risks of wearing a bra. The original goal of the bra is to keep the breasts in place, and it is a perfect solution especially for women with bigger breasts. Still, there are some scientific proofs that imply that bras can do more harm than good.
Jean Dennis Rouillion is a professor and sports science researcher at the University of Franche-Comte, and she had carried out research on the positive and negative side effects of bras. This research has lasted for 15 years, and 330 women participated in it. The women were aged between 18 and 35, and they have been all wearing a bra from an early age. The results from the research appeared to be appalling.
Namely, the bras did not do anything in terms of supporting the chest, preventing the sagging and reducing the back pain as thought. In fact, it was quite the opposite: it turned out that wearing a bra makes the breasts even saggier. While the study lasted, some women stopped wearing a bra, and at the end of the study, it was discovered that they had a 7 millimeters lift in their nipples.
According to Professor Jean, bras interrupt blood circulation and that is why women who do not wear a bra can expect better elasticity because of the increase of collagen. It is a fact that lots of women wear the bra because they try not to distract people, but it turned out that getting the bra off is, in fact, a far better option which will improve the condition of their breasts.
