Some people carry extra weight in the face and chin, giving the face a more round and chubby look. While spot reduction on fat specifically in the face is not possible, you can help your face look slimmer. Doing full-body workouts can help you lose weight all over, and doing certain exercises can help tone the facial muscles to give your face a more firm appearance.
Fat Blasting Cardio
Fat in the face and chin accumulates the same way fat on any other part of your body does. So you have to do the same things to get rid of it. Since you can’t target your face for weight loss, you have to work out your whole body. Doing this will help you lose weight all over, and the fat around your face will start to shed as well. To lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume — cardio exercise is an effective way to do so. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends doing no less than 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise, each week to lose weight. Choose exercises like running, jogging, biking or using an elliptical trainer.
Flex Some Muscle
Lifting weights will also help you lose fat around your face. This is because lifting weights requires physical exertion, which will cause you to burn calories. Lifting weights two to three times a week in conjunction with cardio exercise will help to create a calorie deficit and lead to weight loss. Also, your body burns more calories maintaining muscle, so building more muscle will help you burn a bit more fat throughout your body as well as in your face.
Say Cheese!
Doing exercises like face yoga will help tone your facial muscles and tighten the surrounding skin. When coupled with cardio and strength training, facial exercises will help your face and chin look less chubby. To tone your facial muscles, smile as big as you can and hold for 30 seconds. Puff out your cheeks and hold for 30 seconds. Tilt your head back and then kiss 10 times; repeat this process for a total of three times. To tone your chin and neck, pinch along your jawline three times and then drag your thumbs away from each other along your jawline three times. Tilt you head back and stroke your neck with your fingers 10 times. Lower your head and repeat two more times. Next, point your chin to the sky, place your fingers on your collar bone and pull the corners of your mouth down.
Not Your Favorite Genes
Some people appear to have a more chubby face even when they are thin. This is because some people are genetically predisposed to a double chin and rounder face. Genetics account for bone structure as well as facial muscle structure. So a person whose face is already round may not have more facial fat, it just may be more noticeable because of facial structure. For these individuals, exercise and fat loss may not provide the desired results.
